Privacy Policy
Last updated 16 August 2026
Starbound is a focus timer. This policy explains what it collects, why, and what you can do about it. It applies to the Starbound mobile app and the service behind it.
What we collect
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | Identifies your account and lets you sign back in. Supplied when you sign up with email, or passed to us by Apple or Google when you use their sign-in. |
| Nickname and gender | Shown on your profile and to friends. Both are optional and set during onboarding. |
| Focus sessions | Start time, end time and duration of each session, so the app can show your weekly hours and award progress. |
| XP and Stardust | Your earned totals and the events that produced them, which drive your rank and shop purchases. |
| Friend connections | Who you have added and any pending requests, so the social features work. |
| Online status | Whether you are currently active, shown to friends. |
| Device push token | Lets us notify you when a session ends. Stored per device and removed when you sign out. |
| IP address | Recorded in server logs only when a request fails, for debugging and abuse prevention. |
We do not collect your contacts, photos, location, or advertising identifiers. There is no advertising in Starbound and no third-party analytics or tracking SDK in the app.
Sign in with Apple
If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email address, Apple gives us a private relay address instead of your real one. We treat it exactly like any other email address and never attempt to resolve it.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising. We rely on a small number of processors to run the service:
- Supabase — database and authentication.
- Vercel — hosting for the backend.
- Render — hosting for the backend API.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) — delivery of push notifications.
- Apple and Google — only if you choose their sign-in.
Beyond those, we disclose data only where the law requires it.
What other people can see
Starbound has social features. Your nickname, rank, focus statistics and online status are visible to people you have added as friends, and your nickname is discoverable by username search so that others can send you a request. Nothing else — your email address in particular — is shown to other users.
How long we keep it
Your account data is kept for as long as your account exists. Delete the account and it is removed, not archived: the deletion cascades through your profile, sessions, XP history, friendships and device tokens. Failure logs containing IP addresses are short-lived and expire on their own.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account and all associated data from inside the app, at any time, without contacting us. The deletion is immediate and permanent, and it cannot be undone. If you would rather we did it for you, email support.starboundtimer@gmail.com from your account address.
Full instructions, including how to request deletion when the app is no longer installed, are on the account deletion page.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or erase your personal data, or to object to how it is processed. You can edit your profile and delete your account in the app; for anything else, write to support.starboundtimer@gmail.com and we will respond.
Children
Starbound is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Access to production data is restricted, and authentication is handled by Supabase rather than by storing passwords ourselves. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Starbound after a change means you accept the updated policy.
